Chris Christie’s lane closure story looks to be picking up steam. Now a U.S. Senate Committee will look into it. This is not going to derail Christie’s campaign but it could be part of a larger narrative against him.
The idea of closing some lanes on the bridge to punish someone who wouldn’t support you is normal in the tough politics of New Jersey/New York. This kind of retribution and bullying, if it is linked to Christie, reminds people what they don’t like about New Jersey.
The tough, in your face, style that Christie has risen to national prominence does not look for good when put next to scandals like this. In fact it adds to the criticism that among Southern and western audiences it is Christie, being from the ethnic Northeast, is simply not one of them. More than anything that could really harm his chances to win the GOP nomination.
