Here is a clip of Marco Rubio on FOX News Sunday:
It is clear he is working to rebuild his support among conservatives. Although he did send some mixed signals. On the one hand he expressed support for Mitch McConnell, who is now loathed by conservative activists and he also defended his vote that would have kept the government shutdown.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rubio went hard after Obamacare and will continue to do so. It is certainly going to help him with conservatives we are still mad about losing the government shutdown fight.
Pushing for Sebelius to resign could become a new cause for Rubio. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul used filibusters to catapult themselves into the national spotlight. Will Rubio try and do the same with this?
That rebuilding is needed because of the second half of the interview. Despite his efforts to wiggle around it, the immigration issue still continues to haunt Rubio. Chris Wallace made sure to remind Rubio how much his poll numbers have dropped since the Senate debated the issue. You could tell Rubio was pleased to hear that.
He is still looking for a way to shake the issue. Could going after Sebelius do the trick? He sure needs something.
