Today D.C. hosted the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. Celebrating this iconic event was covered by media around the world and featured Presidents Obama, Clinton, Carter and Civil Rights heroes like John Lewis.
Interestingly prominent Republicans like John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Jeb Bush and John McCain were asked to participate. All of them turned it down.
What were they thinking?
At a time when the GOP is doing horribly with racial minorities wouldn’t this have been a great opportunity to at least show up? No one thinks that one appearance would turn this around but to blow off the event sends a message that you don’t care. If any potential 2016 candidates had invitations and turned them down they should have their head’s examined.
I have to wonder if the GOP’s leadership really has to ask why it doesn’t do better with non-white voters.
