You won’t have the Ricker to kick around anymore

Looks like the Ricker will be leaving Austin.  Good old Governor Rick Perry today announced that he will not seek re-election for governor.  It should be noted he is the longest serving governor in Texas state history.

While he said he loved the job the Ricker also said it was time to pass on the mantle of leadership.  Yeah right.  Perry could see the writing on the wall.  He knew he was going to face a tough primary fight and that if he lost that his career was over.  So now he can leave on his own terms, get behind whoever looks like they’ll win (or probably just stay out all together) and spend his time raising money and traveling the country for whatever reason he wants.

One thing to keep in mind is that this had nothing to do with Wendy Davis.  If Perry thought he could get the GOP nomination again he’d have hung around and won comfortably in a race with her or any Texas Democrat.
